great tips, great fly tying, although with the Booby i like to crease the foam with my finger nail forming a indent to lay across the hook then tie it in i find this method works well. Keep the video’s coming great !!

Hi David, I’ve never thought of pushing the hook through the sponge great idea so obvious when you think about it i’ll try that next time keep the ideas coming. cheers Alan.

Fished boobie style flies in the states for quite a few years although I usually use more floating dragon, strawman or tadpole patterns.

    Hi
    Happy New Year
I have been collecting and scrounging fur and feathers for 60 yrs. and have quite a collection. Many can be found whilst fishing. another source is find a friend who shoots for the pot. Some you will have to buy! If you buy a book with fly patterns you will get an idea of what to look for.
    Regards

  38. MattySimmo123 says:

wow i am 13 and i am really interested in fly fishing. i have only tied few buzzers but i have got to say it is so much more satisfying catching on your own flies! and my next aim is to fly the Montana Nymph!!

  39. jrpaint62 says:

Hi Dave! Love watching these videos. Here in the States we call head varnish “head cement”. Catching fish with flies i tied myself is a bit more satisfying. Here in Connecticut just downstream from a reservour in a semi deep gorge i catch Walleye with weighted Woolley Buggers.Black is most productive but i have caught many fish with other colors. I used my cats hair for dubbing and some say cat being a predator is a problem. Have any thoughts on this?

  40. monstercatambush says:

    Mr. Cammis:
I am indeed flattered to get a personal response. I did “tackle” tying this particular pattern after watching your video a few times and getting my gear together and organized. This past Sunday I was able to catch two very nice blue gills from some flooded weeds, as well as the back of my right ear. (I was a bit excited about catching a fish on my own fly and fumbled my cast!) I always mash the barbs, though, so both fish and I were easily released.
    Thanks again.

    Hi monstercatambush
Thanks for your comments. Hope you do get the gear and have a go at tying your own flies. Once you start you will find it addictive.
    Happy fishing

  44. monstercatambush says:

Excellent series, Mr. Cammis! I had considered tying my own flies for quite some time but the explanations I’ve read in books were kind of confusing. These videos are very clear. Thanks!

  45. weava2000 says:

It’s so refreshing to find well thought out, informative videos on You Tube. A welcome change to the 99.5 percent garbage out there. Thanks!

  46. gergorymoore says:

im not good at saying thankyou to people.. but you are really heplful and very nice to post it on youtube for others to watch and learn.
    thanx

  47. xoskyeox says:

when i tie this i normaly put some flash in the tailand i dont weight it and i use green hackle wound round the thorax sounds weird but it works very well for rainbows n big browns

  48. jrpaint62 says:

Here in the States we call it “head cement”. A name brand, Flexament. Get the smaller size as it almost always dries out in the bottle before i use it all.

  49. talbot312 says:

    Hey Jr

Can you recomend a varnish, such as a brand or that?

    Cheers

  50. jrpaint62 says:

nail varnish/polish is acetone. can disolve some materials on contact. Spend the extra pound.
