Full HD. Gold Bead Cats Whisker – Possible the best variant of the famous Cats Whisker!
This fly surprised me, it caught fish on the small streams that I fish in the Black Hills. It brought large trout to the surface when nothing else would. Do they take it for a cicada? I don’t know, but it does catch fish. This fly is inspired by the cicada patterns I encountered in New Zealand. I tie it in a size 6 but it can be tied larger or smaller depending on the size of the bugs in your neck of the woods.
Hi dartsbase,
I am using a 4mm bead? in this video however you can increase this or decrease this to your own specification.

~David

James,
You may get away with that if you only put weight at the front of the fly.
Gold beads are certainly worth? it though as they add a certain flash to the fly.

~David
I won’t forget it, don’t worry!
Regarding a normal cats whisker (No mid? wing) would it be possible just to tie it with lead wire as an underbody? As gold beads can be expensive, and you normally don’t get many in a packet.
Hi James,
Many? Thanks for your comment!
Definitely try a few of these but you must not forget the Gold Bead! It’s very important!
Best Regards,
~David

awesome!!! i? wanna get into fly tying
We don’t have cicadas over here, but the basis of that pattern would make a great beetle? imitation! I’ll be tying a few of those! Thanks for the post Hans.
Alan
very nice pattern, probably can? be used to imitate a common black fly.
nice work, congratulations
