Fly Tying Lesson 3 for Beginners. This lesson shows what you need and how to make your own fishing flies. This fly tying tutorial demonstrates a ‘Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear’.
@bradcrosby8722 It is mostly a winter pattern for me on my home River “the Bow”. I’ve caught a dozen or more 20 inch + rainbow on this exact pattern just in the last few weeks. It’s my February fly of the month.
What have you caught with these nice flies?
@XooBONES when fly tying, or fly fishing for that matter, i’m in my own little world.
@humblefisherman what are you in imaginary land
@dandotreillydot42058
I’m a printer in my real life, the ink dosn’t wash off my dry cracked river quenched fingers.
@yourmotherFer
they worked real well in mid april. Got a few beauty browns.
1:10 wash your hands
wtf is this
well how did those green caddis work there humble?
is liquid lace just like stretch tubing?
@NannyWhip keep trying its very simple to do and it feels good to do something that others require a tool to do.
@yourmotherFer I’ve tried and tried and can’t do that. The whip finish tool saves me a whole load of grief so I think I’ll stick with it as speed isn’t an issue with me.
very nice my friend
Nice flies! I’ve tweeked the blood worm concept a bit by running small wire inside the tubing to created a bit of a flashier effect. I’ll post a video when I get a chance.
yes mother
and wash your hands!
Nice flies. Great ties. Learn to whip with your hand, ditch the tool, Your hands are the best damn tools you got and faster!
is the bead a must have on this fly? if so would a gold colored one work?
v-rib is a close second. pretty much the same thing.
can you use stretchtubing instead of the liquid lace?? And great job on the fly
merci für die information.
v-rib would work just as well wouldnt it?
blue glass beads from a local bead shop.
nice!
what kind of bead is that?
Like your lessons, not the advistisement. Will be tying HR’s next.

Hi David, I’m a beginner in tying. I really enjoy your explanations, tips and showing closeups of not only the material being used but the step by step method. I have a number of your lessons saved within my YouTube play list. Thanks and keep making those lessons.
Trollin47
you could just use the tinsel from christmas for the gold rib
thanks i now just use my fingers.
I started tying about 3 months ago. I have bought 3 or 4 books on tying fly’s. I have found that your tying lessons for beginners videos have been more helpful than any book I’ve read.
the varnish secures the knot like glue and if you are worried about the knot get a whip finishing tool
What does the varnish do? Also how do you tie the knot when you are tying off?

Dave – just started tying my own flies about a year ago. I’ve found your instructions to be extremely helpful and I appreciate your insight. Thanks for the videos. Please keep making more!
Dave you are a big help I have read many books that show you how to tyflys but none are as good as you are.
P.S your good
Thats economical lol. Good idea.
I think this will be helpful to me as a beginner. Once I learn how, though; I will be tying different flies, suited for Oklahoma fish and waters. Cheers-
Get a Popsicle stick
There are 2 types of Velcro, really heavy (lots of points in it) and lighter stuff which doesn’t have as many points in it.
The more points in it, the more it’s going to pull on the dubbing.
Anyway. You use glue or some kind of double sided tape to attach the Velcro to the Popsicle stick. Just cut it into little squares, pull apart the two sides of Velcro and glue it down so it looks like the one he has in the video.
when you said ‘keep me posted’, here we go! i made this fly with dog hair instead of dubbing material, and caught 2 trout over 4lb! youre the best mate!
