FlySpoke Fly Tying The Green Machine Atlantic Salmon Fly Fishing

The Green machine was created in New Brunswick Canada for fishing Atlantic Salmon on the world famous Miramichi River. The first version was only the deer spun body and the brown hackle. Today there are as many different versions as anyone can imagine. My favorite and proven winner is the White Calf Tail Green machine. I hope it will be yours as well. Please note that most times this fly is tied on single hooks. The Providences of Newfoundland and certain rivers in Nova Scotia allow only single barb free hooks.

I’ve never used a Green Machine with a tail.I fish the Restigouche and Upsaquiche rivers and our version only has a red butt tied on and is a few sizes smaller(12-14).
Thanks for sharing your pattern,I’ll try a few next season.

Wrap twice around the deer hair before applying any pressure, then pull tightly. The hair will spin perfectly everytime, also make sure the hair is the more hollow type of deer body – it’ll spin much easier. I generally get all my deer from hunters and I believe it’s the belly area that’s the best. The Herbert Miner saddles are great for bugs, 3 – 4 flies per feather!

@flyspoke the spining part os a royel pain in the ass haha. just tryed two but used grizzle hackle, just someting to try.

Allan-After you spin a few deer hair flies the process becomes very simple. Messy and time consuming but very easy. I do use an instant glue when fixing down hair wings so hairs are fixed to each other but not for spun flies. The delicate part of this fly is the brown hackle. If you do use glue make sure that it is slick when dry so you can spin the deer hair.

seems pretty simple must get out the old vice for another year 😛 i would have added a lil glue to the hook befor adding the body .

I am a salmon fisherman in Scotland and I would suggest if you can afford to fish the Alta then you can afford to buy a priest instead of battering the fish to death with a stone.

  13. slugavesslan says:

They fish in Alta river , probably one of the best salmon rivers in the world , you would never afford to fish there and dont matter if you catch and release or not because regular ppl arent allowed to fish there.

  14. tuqueman04 says:

You guys need to learn to catch and release! how the hell are you going to eat two salmon that size ??

Få en prest å drepe fisken med istedenfor av å slå det med klipper og forårsake det de fleste smerte og nød. Im som nå drar sioppabonnement på grunn av måten du behandlet disse vakkere laksene.
